How To Make Your Lipstick Last

03/09/2015

Your lips play an integral role in your wedding day makeup look and will also be a focus in your photos. Not only this but they’ll be taking a centre stage role when it comes to sealing the deal with your beloved…

It’s a question I get asked a lot and the reality is that however much you pay for a lipstick; once you start to eat and drink it will start to move and eventually disappear. There are, however, four things you can do to pro-long its survival on a lenghty wedding day…

TLC

As with the application of foundation (more here >), the better the canvas the better the makeup will look and the same applies for lips. Protect your lips all year round, whether it's from the sun or the chilly winter winds, invest in a product like Blistex Intensive Moisturiser Hydrating Lip Cream to help shield them from the elements. Regular weekly exfoliation is also a good approach for getting rid of dry skin to make them soft and kissable, here's how >

Layers

One coat of lipstick will not be enough for the longevity of a wedding day. Start with lining your lips in a similar colour to your final lipstick shade and then blot any excess off with a thick tissue, do at least two layers. Then apply your two coats of lipstick, blotting again in between each.

Set

Finally setting your carefully applied lipstick is integral to helping it stay put. Using your ring finger (generally this one has the lightest touch of them all) apply a translucent powder onto the top and bottom lips, allow it to sink in for a couple of minutes.

Drinks

By all means enjoy a celebratory glass of bubbly or cup of tea whilst you finish getting ready but don't undo all of your hard work. Use a straw to drink through pre-ceremony, this will save you having to reapply and keep things in the right place ahead of your big moment.

It's unlikely that your lipstick will last all day long, some brides like to top it up after their meal but others often forget because they're simply having too much of a good time!
