How to Exfoliate

22/07/2014

Exfoliating not only deeply cleanses but also refines texture and gives skin a fresh glow - the perfect look for a bride on her wedding day!

Being your own skincare expert is the best way to know and understand what's going on with your face. Before you set off exfoliating, examine the state of your skin and where there might be more dryness as this might need more focus. For example, in the summer time lots of people get drier skin around their hairline where the sun hits and they haven't quite managed to block it out with sunscreen.

Routine

Start by building exfoliation into your beauty routine twice a week, if you find that your skin is becoming sensitive or red then reduce it to just once a week. (I prefer to exfoliate at nighttime!). Use a blob about the size of a 50 pence piece and smooth gently over your face, let the particles touch your face slowly and let them do their job.

Gently Does It

Go for a exfoliator that doesn't have harsh looking beads or grains in it. Try not to scrub away at your skin in short bursts, this will only cause damage and irritation. It's more beneficial in the long run to gently massage into the face in small circular motions, slowly and carefully, over a longer period of time. Aim to spend at least 3 - 5 minutes exfoliating your face.

Moisturise

Wash off the exfoliant with warm water and then gently pat your face dry with a towel. Use a hydrating cream or a serum to lock in moisture before heading off to bed.

Take it from me, your skin will be much brighter (and your skin significantly smoother) in the lead up to your wedding day if you get on board with this in your routine. It's also super helpful to have supple and moisturised skin for the application of makeup and in particular foundation.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below, I'd love to know how you've got on and hear about the difference you've noticed in your skin if you're new to exfoliating!
